The colour options for vinyl lettering are different from the painted option.
4 – Choose Your Frame ColourI offer this option to allow you to create your own detail, where the frame is either the same colour as the board, or the the same colour as the lettering to provide an alternative look and feel to your sign. Please note this option is only available with painted lettering.

Then choose the number of lines you require, and input the text content of each line which will enable me to proof the sign accurately.

Exterior signs have to be able to withstand very harsh and varied conditions for many years, and my material choices reflect that.
The boards I make for my signs are from a composite material called Tricoya; which is similar to MDF but with a lifetime of up to 50 years. Tricoya is produced from softwoods from FSC Certified sustainable forests.
The frames are all made in my studio from hardwood mouldings, made in the UK, and wherever possible also from FSC Certified sources.
The paint I use for my signs is a water based long-life exterior paint, developed specifically for harsh exterior environments. The frames and boards are painted using the same type of paint, sealed and painted front and back to ensure the quality and lifetime of the sign.
Similarly with the vinyl lettering option. The vinyl material and adhesives have been specifically developed for long term external applications. Vinyl options include a gloss/matt choice for black and white, a semi-matt finish for silver and gold, with the rest of the standard range of colours in a matter finish.
I offer two types of fixings as standard options to ensure the best mechanical and aesthetic choices. Please see the Sign Fixings & Mounting tab below for more details.
In my pursuit of Environmentally Friendly production, I prioritise the use of responsibly sourced, sustainable, recycled/recyclable, and environmentally friendly materials in my studio and workshop, from start to finish.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a link to FSC is [here] if you’d like more information about the work the FSC does for the environment.
Packaging is a particular feature for my work. I avoid plastics wherever possible – using recycled/recyclable when not, purchase from environmentally accredited suppliers, and use FSC certified cardboard and paper wherever possible.
Environmental policies (mostly) read like they’re written by robots, and many probably are. I suspect mine isn’t that different – though it is written by myself, a link to my full environmental policy – if you’d like to see for yourself is [here].
Mounting Your SignI supply a full size drilling/fixing template with every sign for super easy installation with keyhole sign fixings. It couldn’t easier; no guessing or awkward measurements, just position your sign using the full size drilling template, mark the holes and drill, or drill through the template if you prefer.
Keyhole Sign FixingsThese fittings are fitted onto the back of the frame and are completely hidden from view, so no brackets or unsightly holes and screws through the front of your sign – which are also points of interest for moisture. This fixing style ensures a small gap (3mm) between the sign and the mounting point. Screws and Rawlplugs are also included.
Mirror Plate FixingsThe mirror plates I supply are solid brass with a corrosion resistant finish, a dull brass colour they’re small and also discrete, but of course visible. If you’d prefer these fixings please just note it in the Additional Details section on your order. Screws and Rawlplugs are also included.
As part of the designing / making process I create a digital proof or mock-up for all my sign designs. The proof is a representation of the completed sign to my clients specification and content, which if correct is then signed off for making.
The digital proofing / mock-up stage is an essential part of my process to ensure that the sign is exactly as you require it, and it gives you an opportunity to make small corrections prior to starting the build, if required.
As part of the proofing process, which is provided at no extra cost, you can select two fonts to view as mock-ups and choose between them for the final build version.
I also offer an option of having me create a small selection of designs for my clients to view a wider range of layouts and make a choice between them for building.
Lead Time: I usually despatch within 10 working days from approval of the sign Proof / Mock-Up. I always confirm an intended despatch date as part of my order confirmation, and if you need a rush service then please get in touch.
Delivery: Free standard delivery is included in the price, though a 24/48hr service is available at the checkout if required.
Packaging is a particular feature for my work. I avoid plastics wherever possible – using recycled/recyclable when not, I purchase from environmentally accredited suppliers, and use FSC certified cardboard and paper wherever possible.
Returns: All my signs are made to order, and there’s no automatic right of return for bespoke products unless the product is faulty or damaged in transit. Please view my full Terms & Conditions, [here] before ordering, and if you have any questions please get in touch.
Frequently Asked Questions - Bespoke Hand Made & Finished Signs
Usually my signs are despatched within 10 working days from receipt of approval to make. This is when you’ve seen the digital proof / mock-up that I provide for each sign, and have approved it for me to make it. All of my signs are made entirely in my studio from scratch for every order. The frames and boards are built and painted, and the lettering added, and the sign finally detailed ready for despatch. Every step and process is carried out in my studio as a bespoke design for all of my clients.
I’v chosen the materials specifically for a long lifetime. The frames are made from hardwood, the board has a manufacturer’s life of up to 50 years, and the water based paints have been developed specifically for outdoor use in harsh environment. The signs are sealed and painted front and back to give the longest possible lifetime.
The vinyl I use for the vinyl lettering option is a long life specification created for outdoor use on signage. UV radiation is the biggest factor for vinyl on signs. With most signs being mounted vertically, and our climate – which is relatively low in UV intensity, vinyl lettering has a good lifetime expectancy.
Very easy, I’ve designed the signs with easy installation in mind. Two recessed metal fixings are standard, and I provide a full size cardboard drilling template for every sign, which means that you can position the sign using the template and either mark the holes for drilling – or tape the sign template to the wall and drill through the template.
The recessed fixings are already fitted to the frames, so you only need to mark and drill two holes where you intent to mount the sign and hang it on the two fixings.
Mirror plate fixings are available as an option is required, I supply solid brass plates with a corrosion resistant coating to keep the plates looking good.
I offer a range of Farrow & Ball colours as standard for the sign boards, and you can opt to have any of the F&B colours for a small additional charge. The choice of lettering colours for painted signs is the same as the boards, though if you choose to have vinyl lettering rather than painted the colour choices are different, depending on the colour of the vinyl material.
Yes you can include graphic elements and artwork. I offer a standard rang of graphics and ornaments that you can use on your sign, and I can source specific artwork elements if required. The best graphic and artwork elements on typical signs are usually the simple bold line-art or shapes.
I can also create bespoke artwork, monograms, logos etc as required, if you’re interested in this service, please do get in touch.
Yes logos can be incorporated into your sign, and can be painted or made in vinyl. The best logos for use are simple and bold, you can upload your artwork as part of the order process, which will be incorporated into the digital proof / mock-up that I produce for your sign.
Yes you can have more than one colour on your sign – board and frame. The standard colour options include the choice of two colours: frame and board the same colour, or frame and lettering the same colour. You can however choose any colour options for you frame, board and lettering, if this is of interest please get in touch.
Yes, I can have paint mixed to recognised paint references if required. Typically this service is used by business’ to match their branding colours, but if you like a particular colour(s) and have a reference for it, I can have it mixed for your sign.
