Imagine Yourself Creative - Workshops & Courses

I’m often asked about art workshops and art courses for people who’ve never painted before, or believe they’re “not artistic”. I’ve been tutoring art for many years with students of all ages and abilities, and all my workshops are developed and structured to encourage students of all skill levels. Starting out on your creative path, or trying a new one, these workshops are perfect for all artists.

In-Person Workshops & Demo’s. These are split between my studio, where I keep numbers limited to a maximum of six students on any workshop, and larger groups for art societies etc, on location. I’ve developed a range of workshops with different media, subjects and emphasis, for absolute beginners and experienced artists alike.

One to One & Group Art Tuition. I offer bespoke workshops on a one to one, one to one – plus one, or group basis where you get to choose your interest and intentions for the day and I create the content. Full day and half day sessions are available depending on your requirements, but the essence remains the same – a guided art workshop dedicated to your requirements.

Online Courses & Demo’s. Coming soon. Short form demonstrations & technique based videos, and longer form courses of some of my most popular workshops and favourite media. These should be available early 2026.

If you’d like early notice of upcoming workshops or courses please get in touch, or sign up to my newsletter.

Frequently Asked Questions - Art Workshops - Art Courses - Art Tuition

Al my workshops are suitable for all skill and experience levels. In my experience being a beginner, with a beginners mindset, is a tremendous advantage for a workshop. Your expectations are not overly ambitious, learning and enjoying the experience is at the top of your mind, and with an openness to working simply, and just seeing what happens is a perfect combination.

My workshops at the moment are all in-person, either at my studio or other locations depending on requirements. Online, I’m building a portfolio of short and long form courses which cover techniques and complete painting projects.

Answering this does depend on your starting point. My advice to beginners is always to follow your interest, and don’t be tempted into being too ambitious – do a little bit of research and try what appeals to you from an artistic or aesthetic point of view. All my workshops have a “first principles” approach, this encourages students to build on their own experience, whether that’s absolute beginners starting out, or more experienced artists.

One to One, or plus One if preferred, has the advantage of being tailored exactly to you and your experience and skill level, along with my time being dedicated throughout the day to you solely. The workshops are more generalised, though I do keep them quite tight to the media and subject, and with limited student numbers (max 6) my time is spread between students.

Some people learn better, or simply enjoy, being in a small like-minded task oriented group, and others a more dedicated and detailed workshop tailored to their particular needs.

I regularly have students who prefer to use their own subject material on my workshops, for example an animal portrait on a still life workshop. My experience is that students get more from a specific workshops, so it’s better to book a specific course for animal portraits if possible. However, it’s not unusual for students work using their own subject material.

Yes, I regularly undertake workshops for a wide variety of organisations, art societies, education providers, businesses and more.

Yes, I enjoy my Plein Air workshops and one to one tuition sessions enormously. Painting Plein Air is a discipline that’s almost always a universal gift to any artist, the nature of painting with changing conditions and within a fixed time creates a different disposition towards the work at hand, and it’s frequently the better for it – at least in my experience!

Normally all materials and tools are included at the workshops I run at my own studio, though there are some workshops that you can use your own if you’d prefer – at a reduced cost. All you need to bring is a packed lunch, we have a small kitchen with the usual facilities for use by students.

I always have a selection of workshops available throughout the year, and I’ve structured them all as “stand-alone” workshops – with a similar progression over the duration of the workshop.

Yes, I’m happy to have children attend, along with a supervising adult. If you’d like to organise this please get in touch.

You can either book your session online, and I’ll be in touch directly to determine all the details, date, content etc. Or get in touch with me directly and we can go from there. It’s your day, so I spend some time detailing what you want to cover on the day, and suitable subject matter, along with appropriate content depending on your skill level and experience.

Yes, I often run one to one – plus one art tuition sessions. If you and your plus one are working on the same thing it’s easier, however, I’m happy to provide any one of my typical workshop contents for your plus one if they’d prefer.
